1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces?
These inspiration pieces all had characteristics that I attain. All of the
pictures were of African- American women like myself, also these women seem to
carry a personality trasit that I see in myself such as strength, believer,
ambition, courage, caring, and independence.
2. Why did you select the media to create your
self-portrait? I selected to draw my own portrait because I wanted to
personalize my portrait and I knew if I drew the picture myself it would be
exactly what I wanted to show.
3. What challenges did you face in creating
your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?
I had trouble drawing in my dimples in my face
and on the sides of my mouth. I also had trouble drawing a picture that looks
like myself because I do not have great drawing skills. I overcame this by
trying my best to draw myself and putting my characteristics around my portrait
connecting them all to myself.
4. How does this piece represent you?
This piece represents me because I am light
skin with black hair. I have three dimples and I love to wear pink lipstick. I
am also a very independent person I have two jobs and I pay all of my bills on
my own. I am strong, a believer, and ambitious person. I believe in myself and
I work very hard towards my goals. Lastly I do a lot of community service because
I am caring and I proceed in life without fear because I am courageous.
5. What elements and principles of art did you
apply in this work? My piece
has variety and unity because although I have
different colors and shapes in my portrait they all come together and becomes a
part of the way I identify myself.
6. Did you enjoy working on this project?
Yes I enjoyed working on this project because
I got a chance to think about myself and see what portraits in the gallery
represent me the most.
7. What do you think of your final artwork?
I am proud of my final artwork because even though I am not a great
drawer I portrayed myself to the best of my ability.
